Lipka

Z tamtej strony jeziora
Stoi lipka zielona
A na tej lipce, na tej zielonieńkiej
Trzej ptaszkowie śpiewają
A na tej lipce, na tej zielonieńkiej
Trzej ptaszkowie śpiewają
Nie byli to ptaszkowie
Tylko trzej braciszkowie
Co się spierali o jedną dziewczynę
Który ci ją dostanie
Co się spierali o jedną dziewczynę
Który ci ją dostanie
Jeden mówi: „Tyś moja”
Drugi mówi: „Jak Bóg da”
A trzeci mówi: „Moja najmilejsza,
Czemu Tyś mi taka smutna?”
A trzeci mówi: „ Moja najmilejsza,
Czemuś Tyś mi taka smutna?”
„Jakże nie mam smutna być?
Za starego każą iść.
Czasu niewiele
Jeszcze dwie niedziele
mogę, miły, z Tobą być! ”
Czasu niewiele
Jeszcze dwie niedziele
mogę, miły, z Tobą być!”
Z tamtej strony jeziora
Stoi lipka zielona
A na tej lipce, na tej zielonieńkiej
Trzej ptaszkowie śpiewają
A na tej lipce, na tej zielonieńkiej
Trzej ptaszkowie śpiewają

A little linden

On the other side of the lake
There's a little green linden tree 1
In this little linden, in this green one
Three birdies are singing
In this little linden, in this green one
Three birdies are singing
They weren't birdies
But three brothers
That were arguing about one girl
Which one will get her
That were arguing about one girl
Which one will get her
One says: "You are mine"
The second says: "God willing"
And the third one says: "My dearest,
Why are you so sad?"
And the third one says: "My dearest girl,
Why are you so sad?"
"How can I be not sad?
They tell me to marry an old man
There's little time
Two Sundays more
I can be with you, dear!"
There's little time
Two Sundays more
I can be with you, dear!"
On the other side of the lake
There's a little green linden tree
In this little linden, in this green one
Three birdies are singing
In this little linden, in this green one
Three birdies are singing

Enta Omri
“You are my Life”
composer: Mohamed Abdel Wahab
singer: Oum Kalthoum
Lyrics: Ahmed Shafik
Lyric translation from Shira’s site here.
Arguably the most famous Oum Kalthoum song in history, the music was written by Mohamed Abdel Wahab and lyrics were later added by Ahmed Shafik, a poet who wrote many of the song lyrics for Oum Kalthoum.  A song about the most devotional kinds of love, this may be the epitome of “tarab” music.  Souheir Zaki was given permission by Oum Kalthoum herself to dance to the song.  Before then, dancers were considered too low class to dance to the music of Oum Kalthoum, so this is a major moment in raqs sharki history.  Unlike many other Oum Kalthoum songs, we dance to the sections of the song with lyrics (part 1) and without (part 2 and 3) ( Henna, https://hennadances.com/2014/11/24/classic-belly-dance-songs-top-5-big-songs/
